LAHORE: The U.S. Consul General in Lahore, William K Makaneole, participated in a launch ceremony on Thursday for Pakistan’s new Punjab Central Chapter for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (PAKTESOL), the sixth of eight chapters planned across the country.
William Makaneole stressed the importance of learning English to pursue higher education and support Pakistan’s economic development. The PAKTESOL chapter was established in partnership with the Allama Iqbal Open University and the US government.
“PAKTESOL offers English language professionals a great opportunity to share their knowledge, experience and best practices. The United States stands with Pakistan as we move forward together toward a more prosperous and peaceful future,” Makaneole said.
He thanked the university for its dedication, hard work and commitment to successful English learning programs. He added that promoting English learning and supporting English teachers was at the forefront of the US partnership with Pakistan. English is the language of international communication and helps to facilitate stronger relations with countries around the world, observed the Consul General. AIOU is a partner of the U.S. Mission Gujranwala English Access Micro-Scholarship Program, and Access and English Works! programs in Muzaffarabad. The Consul General recognized these partners for providing networks for teachers and students of English across Pakistan.
