The platform has added automatic text translation functionality in stories — ephemeral posts that only last 24 hours on a particular profile.

No, the feature does not require you to go through the app to activate a toggle or check a box. The feature will work and take effect as soon as it detects a foreign language in a message.
How to see the translated text?
Once the Instagram app detects a foreign language on a Story post, it displays a “See translation” option along with a white message icon at the top left of the screen. Tap it to open a section at the bottom of the screen with the original text as well as the translated text.

As of now, the feature will offer support for over 90 languages ​​including Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Portuguese and more.
