The first foreign language subject is taught from grades 3 to 12, in accordance with the provisions of the general education curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training. Schools can choose to teach the first foreign language from the 1st year depending on the needs of the pupils and the capacity of the schools.

According to the general education curriculum, Vietnamese students are required to learn one foreign language (the first foreign language) and can choose to learn at least one other foreign language (the second foreign language) according to their aspirations and their ability to meet their needs. needs of educational institutions.

Currently, English, Russian, Japanese, French and Chinese are the primary foreign languages ​​taught in Vietnamese schools. The ministry is also piloting the teaching of Korean and German as first foreign languages.

The circular will come into effect on August 16.
